Our Medical Professionals

Dr. Miller is a Unicoi County native.  He lives in Unicoi with his wife of 25 years, Heather, and their children, Olivia and Carson.  He is an active member of Evergreen Freewill Baptist Church.  

Dr. Miller graduated from Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine-University of Pikeville in 2003.  He completed an internship and residency at Norton Community Hospital in Norton, Virginia in May 2006.  In August 2006, he opened Unaka Internal Medicine, LLC in Erwin.  He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine.

Dr. Miller is currently the Medical Director of Governor's Bend Assisted Living.  He also has a special interest in hospice care and is the Medical Director of Avalon Hospice in Johnson City, Kingsport and Bristol.  He is also a board-member of AnewCare Collaborative, an Accountable Care Organization that is focused on providing quality and affordable care to the region's Medicare members.

Whitley is an Erwin native and she joined our team in April 2018.  Her previous experience in nursing includes being a registered nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Niswonger Children's Hospital in Johnson City, TN for three years.  To further her career in nursing, she went to King University and obtained a Master's of Science in Nursing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.  She is certified by ANCC.  Before receiving her BSN from East Tennessee State University in December 2014, she graduated from ETSU in May 2013 with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Exercise Science.  While pursuing that degree, she was a student athlete playing softball for four years as an ETSU Buccaneer.  Whitley is married to her husband, Trey, who has chosen a career in nursing as well.

Mikayla is a Unicoi County native who joined Unaka Internal Medicine in January 2022.  She graduated from ETSU with an undergraduate in Health Science while also playing softball for the Bucs.  She decided to pursue nursing after graduation and received her BSN-RN from ETSU as well.  She worked as a Registered Nurse at Franklin Woods Community Hospital in Labor & Delivery for 5 years and brought so many wonderful blessings into the world.  She also worked as an RN at Christian Care Nursing Facility.  She obtained her Masters of Science in Nursing from ETSU.  She is certified by AANP.

Mikayla is married to Logan Rice who is also an Erwin native.  They have two beautiful children together, Kason and Wrenly, who are the joy of her life.  

FUN FACT:  Mikayla and Whitley have been friends since middle school and played ball together through the college level.
